Words of Comfort Ministries $1,000 Scholarships – Now Open!
Words of Comfort Ministries, Inc. (WOC) is offering $1,000 scholarships to outstanding African-American high school seniors in Georgia and North Carolina graduating in 2026. These scholarships support students who are committed to education and serving others, and who plan to attend a four-year college or university or Trade School.
We are also awarding the Marvin Lee Daniels 982nd Signal Command ROTC Scholarship to students who plan to take Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) courses in college. ROTC is a program that prepares students to become officers in the U.S. Military (any branch). Ideal candidates for this scholarship are strong students who show leadership, community service, and dedication to helping others.
Qualifications:
To be eligible, students must:
- Be an African-American Georgia or North Carolina high school senior graduating in 2026
- Have a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Plan to attend a 4-year college or university or
- Plan to attend a Trade School (including but not limited to, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrician, Cosmetology, Barber, Welding, etc.)
WOC is also proud to support students who share our commitment to education and service.
- $1,000 scholarships are available for students not pursuing ROTC
- $1,000 scholarships are also available for students enrolled in ROTC
HOW TO APPLY
Before starting your application, make sure you have the following ready to upload:
- High school transcript
- Current resume
- Essay (choose one topic from the list below)
- Letter of Recommendation Contact Information (Name, Email, and Phone Number)
Important: You must complete the application in one sitting. If you exit before submitting, your progress will not be saved, and you will have to start over.
Essay Requirements
Your essay should be well organized, thoughtful, and reflective of your experiences and goals. Select one topic that aligns with your application—Non-ROTC Scholarship, ROTC Scholarship, or Trade School.
For Non-ROTC Students (General Scholarship):
- Topic 1: Beyond your day-to-day work, how do you see yourself using your planned major to serve, mentor, or give back to your community throughout your career?
- Topic 2: Describe a specific problem or need you’ve observed in your community. How do you plan to use the skills you’ll gain in your planned major to address this challenge?
- Topic 3: College will provide you with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to make a difference. What does community service mean to you, and how do you plan to use your college experience and education to strengthen your community during and after your undergraduate years?
For ROTC Students:
- Topic 1: Beyond your day-to-day work, how do you see yourself using your ROTC education to serve, mentor, or give back to your community throughout your career?
- Topic 2: Describe a specific problem or need you’ve observed in your community. How do you plan to use the skills you’ll gain in ROTC to address this challenge?
- Topic 3: Military service is fundamentally about serving something larger than yourself—whether protecting the nation, supporting your unit, or strengthening the communities where you’re stationed. What does service mean to you, and how do you envision contributing to your community during and after your military career?
For Trade School Students:
- Topic 1: Beyond your day-to-day work, how do you see yourself using your trade school education to serve, mentor, or give back to your community throughout your career?
- Topic 2: Describe a specific problem or need you’ve observed in your community. How do you plan to use the skills you’ll gain in trade school to address this challenge?
- Topic 3: Many trades professionals serve their communities through their work—whether building homes, maintaining infrastructure, or providing essential services. What does community service mean to you, and how do you envision using your trade school education to contribute to your community in the first five years after graduation?
Skills & Abilities Form and Letter of Recommendation – Required Contact Information
As part of your application, you must provide the name, email, and phone number of the person (rater) who will write your letter of recommendation and complete your Skills and Abilities Form. This is crucial because we will be directly contacting them to request these documents on your behalf. Please ensure you have their permission and that their contact information is correct before submitting your application.
Your application requires materials from both you and your chosen rater. Applications will not advance if either the Skills & Abilities Rating Form or Letter of Recommendation is missing, even if you have completed your portion. We recommend checking with your rater well before the deadline below to ensure all materials are submitted.
